BIODATA OF Colonel Sanu Tamang Chief Execute Officer, Nepal Army Welfare Board (NAWB)

Colonel Sanu Tamang joined the Nepalese Army on 9 Ashwin 2044 BS (26 October 1987 AD) and was commissioned as an officer on 15 Falgun 2045 BS (26 February 1989 AD). Over a dedicated service period of 25 years and 8 months, he performed his duties with high professionalism and commitment. Born on 19 Poush 2024 BS (3 January 1968 AD) in Ryale V.D.C.–5, Kavre Palanchok District, he is the son of Bhola Tamang. He holds an Intermediate in Commerce (I.Com.) degree and retired from active service on 20 Chaitra 2070 BS (4 July 2013 AD) upon completion of his term, leaving behind a distinguished record of service in the Nepalese Army.

Throughout his military career, Colonel Tamang successfully completed numerous professional military trainings both in Nepal and abroad. His training includes Officer Cadet Basic Training, Young Officers’ Course (Infantry), Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare, Company Commander Course, Junior Staff Course (JSC), and Staff Officer Intelligence and Security Course in Nepal. Additionally, he enhanced his expertise through specialized courses such as Int. Psy Ops & Civil Affairs Course, Command and Staff Course, and UN Staff Course (UNSOC) conducted in Malaysia. His training record reflects his all-round capability in leadership, intelligence, operations, and peacekeeping management.

Colonel Tamang’s contributions extend to international peacekeeping operations, where he served in three United Nations missions—UNPROFOR (Yugoslavia) in BS 2050 (1993 AD), UNMIL (Liberia) in BS 2060 (2003 AD), and MONUC (Congo) in BS 2065 (2008 AD). His exceptional service and devotion earned him numerous decorations and medals, including the Pardesh Sewa Medal, Gaddi Arohan Rajat Mahotsav Medal, Sainik Sewa Medal, Prabal Janasewashree Fourth, and several United Nations Medals with Bars for Yugoslavia, Liberia, and Congo. Colonel Sanu Tamang remains a respected figure in the Nepalese Army fraternity for his professionalism, leadership, and distinguished peacekeeping contributions.
