BIODATA OF Major General Hira Lal Joshi (Retd.) Chief Executive Officer, Nepal Army Welfare Board (NAWB)
Major General Hira Lal Joshi (Retd), rcds, psc, an alumnus of the Nepali Military Academy was commissioned into the Nepali Army in June 1988. He retired after 36 years of distinguished service in Jan 2024.
During the service, he took up various command and staff appointments. He was the Commandant of the Nepali Army Peacekeeping Training Centre (2010-11) Director of the Peacekeeping Operations of the Nepali Army February (2019-20) and the Commandant of the Army Command and Staff College (2021-22). He served as the Co-coordinator at the National Security Council Secretariat, prior to his retirement.
He commanded a Force Reserve Battalion in the UN mission in Chad and Central African Republic (MINURCAT) in 2009. He has served in the UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as Staff Officer to the Military Advisor to the Force Commander in 1994 and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) as Military Observer in 2004.
He is a graduate of the Royal College of Defense Services, UK, College of International Security Affairs, USA, and Defense Services Staff College, India. He holds Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University, USA; Master of Arts in International Security Strategy from King's College, UK; Master of Science in Defense and Strategic Studies from Madras University, India; and Master of Public Administration from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
After his retirement, he served as the Coordinator at the Army Welfare Directorate from Aug 2024 to Aug 2025, and soon after he took over the current appointment of Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Army Welfare Board.
He has been awarded with country's the highest decoration for valor, the Nepal Tara. He is married to Mrs Anu and the couple is blessed with daughter Ojaswi and son Awanish. His hobbies include cycling and trekking.
